PADI SCUBA DIVER

Overview

The PADI Scuba Diver course is a shorter entry-level certification for people who want to start diving but do not have time for the full Open Water Diver course. It covers the first half of the Open Water programme. Over two days you complete the core theory, learn the essential scuba skills in shallow confined water, and make two training dives in the sea with your instructor. You will learn how to set up your equipment, breathe comfortably underwater, clear your mask, control your buoyancy, and manage your air supply. As a certified PADI Scuba Diver you can dive to a maximum depth of 12 metres under the direct supervision of a PADI Professional. The certification also counts as credit toward the full Open Water Diver course whenever you choose to continue. Full standard dive equipment, dive computer, eLearning and certification are included.

Description

A faster route into diving The PADI Scuba Diver certification is designed for people who want a real, lifelong certification but have limited time. It is a recognised subset of the PADI Open Water Diver course, covering the first three knowledge sections, the first three confined water dives and the first two open water dives. What you will learn Theory. You work through the first sections of the PADI eLearning programme, included in your course price. These cover how pressure affects your body and your equipment, how to plan a dive within safe limits, how scuba gear works, and the basic safety procedures every diver uses. Your instructor reviews the material with you in person before you get in the water. Confined water skills. In shallow, calm conditions you practise the fundamentals: assembling and checking your kit, breathing from a regulator, clearing your mask, recovering a lost regulator, controlling your buoyancy, and sharing air with a buddy. Every skill is demonstrated first and repeated until you feel comfortable. Open water dives. You then complete two training dives in the sea, applying what you have learned and exploring the reef with your instructor alongside you. What the certification allows As a certified PADI Scuba Diver you may dive to a maximum depth of 12 metres under the direct supervision of a PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor or Instructor. You can rent equipment, obtain air fills and join supervised dive activities at centres worldwide. You cannot dive independently with a buddy. That is the main difference from the full Open Water Diver certification. Continuing your training Because the Scuba Diver course is a genuine part of the Open Water Diver programme, everything you complete counts toward it. If you decide later that you want to dive independently, you simply complete the remaining theory, confined water skills and two further open water dives to upgrade. Who this course suits Travellers with only a couple of days available, people who expect to dive mainly with a guide, and anyone who wants to be certain diving is for them before committing to the longer course. No previous experience is required. You should have adequate swimming skills and be comfortable in the water. The minimum age is 10, and divers under 15 are certified as PADI Junior Scuba Divers. Included in the price Full standard dive equipment, a dive computer, the PADI eLearning package and your certification fee.

Day 1: Theory Review and Confined Water Training
Your first day combines knowledge and water time. You complete the PADI eLearning theory sections, which are included in your course price and can be started before you arrive, then meet your instructor for a face to face review, paperwork and the medical questionnaire. After a full equipment orientation you enter shallow, calm water for your first breaths underwater. You practise setting up your gear, regulator recovery, mask clearing, buoyancy control, and sharing air with a buddy. Everything is demonstrated first and repeated until you are comfortable.

Two training dives in the sea. You repeat a selection of the skills from confined water, then explore the dive site with your instructor while working on buoyancy and comfort in a real environment. Maximum depth is 12 metres. Your instructor confirms you have met all performance requirements, signs your logbook, and processes your PADI Scuba Diver certification.
